An interesting arch from anti-aging products to transhumanism. You imply by making this arch that we are marching toward immortality/transhumanism. While I think immortality products and services are being researched, I’m not so sure that the same people who use anti-aging products would also opt for immortality. The whole idea, of course, raises some very difficult ethical issues. You allude to at least one of these with a quote about ignoring the aging population’s medical problems because of expense. What about the problem of having way too many people? And what about the cost of these methods? Only the rich will be able to afford them? If we already have an income gap, what will having immortal affluent people do to societal structures? Although you suggest at the end that transhumanity is in a way acknowledging not just individual mortality but mortality of the human race, I wonder if immortality is the same thing. In other words, it’s possible that by making us immortal, we can no longer sustain ourselves. Very interesting things to think about, though disturbing as well. :)
