So…I really do not get the avatar thing. The possibilities seem way too limited–why represent yourself as a puppet, a reduction of who you are? I was also struck by the sharp contrast between the claim, by Turkle, that avatars could be ways of imagining alternatives, and the one made by Nowak and Rauh, that the participants in their study strongly preferred avatars who matched themselves.
